Virtual Causeway Helps Local Charities Through Participation in the Corporate Challenge
The 2004 Corporate Challenge for Charity brought businesses and organizations together from the Cambridge and Greater Kitchener Waterloo Chambers to raise money for local charities. Virtual Causeway employees enjoyed a fun day of team building and excitement, to help raise over $12,000 in donations along with over 800 pounds of food.
60 companies from the area participated in this year's event, named "Better Together". Virtual Causeway's team placed 15th out of 60 teams, which was a very respectable showing for an organization's first year of entry into the charity event. Each business chose a unique theme for their team, representing everything from superheroes to the Wizard of Oz. Various games and competitions helped put the event's name, "Better Together" into practice as through out the day team building and working together was a major focus. The organizing community couldn't have asked for a better day. It was warm and sunny and everyone came out to have a good time. At the end of the day, all participants were treated to a fantastic dinner, generous prize donations and great music.
All of the organizations that participated were encouraged to collect money and food donations at their offices. Fund raising events ranged from 50/50 draws to bake sales to "casual days" where employees paid to dress down at the office. Virtual Causeway employees were enticed to donate through a pledge from Rick Endrulat, Chief Operating Officer, to match the total employee contribution by one and a half! This pledge by Mr. Endrulat was then matched by Bill Clark, the Executive Vice President for added motivation for the team.
The Chamber Corporate Challenge is an annual charity event run by a committee of volunteers and staff from the Chambers of Commerce of Greater Kitchener Waterloo and Cambridge. For 20 years, the Chamber Corporate Challenge has brought together businesses and organizations to raise money for local charities in the spirit of friendly competition for this fun-filled day of games and events. Last year's event has raised over $21,000 for Kitchener-Waterloo and Cambridge and North Dumfries Community Foundations and more than 3,000 lbs of food for the Cambridge and Waterloo Region Food Banks.
